I truly enjoyed my time at IHT. Because we weren’t thou­sands of stu­dents, we could do activ­i­ties and team build­ing together and really gets to know each other. The staff and lec­tur­ers are really sup­port­ive and help you to grow and shine not only aca­d­e­m­i­cally but also personally.

They really try to help you in any sit­u­a­tion and you feel like part of a fam­ily and not just another stu­dent pass­ing through. I will never for­get the first day we arrived at IHT. The ori­en­ta­tion week was such a fun-​filled week with the open top bus-​tour through Cape Town, the tast­ing of good food and vis­it­ing some of the most exquis­ite hotels and expe­ri­enc­ing the begin­ning of what was in store for us. In my first year I learned so much, espe­cially that start­ing at the bot­tom is a require­ment for being at the top one day. We were clean­ing toi­lets, mak­ing beds, set­ting tables and the list goes on.

These things were all the things I had to teach my staff in order for me to set the stan­dards become a bet­ter Man­ager and leader to them as I know I have done and learned all the basics myself, and one can’t teach or expect some­one to do some­thing if you are not will­ing to do it yourself.

In my sec­ond year I learned about my favourite sub­ject mar­ket­ing as well as man­age­ment skills. Today I still some­times go back to my books when­ever I start a new project or a mar­ket­ing ven­ture at work. The law of my third year has come in handy so many times with labour laws and espe­cially with liquor license law. Dur­ing my third year in-​service train­ing I started at Bak­en­hof and 5 years later and I am still here. I even started using my third year busi­ness plan for the com­pany and cur­rently we are our sec­ond venue at Bak­en­hof. I am doing what I love.

Dur­ing my 3 years at IHT I made life­long friends, I gained knowl­edge and expe­ri­ences that have helped me grow into the busi­ness women I am today. I have learned how to stay on top of my game in this com­pet­i­tive industry.
